This is the book that started me on mandala coloring books – and with great pleasure I’ve not looked back! There can be a lot of meaning behind mandalas whether they impart a sense of mysticalness, whimsy; this one has a sense of ‘visiting’ different cultures and traditions.
There are: ~ 30 mandalas ~ good quality paper ~ double sided pages; I personal use copy onto 60 lb. cover stock paper to use less alcohol ink absorption and mitigate messing up the other side of the page ~ good quality printing, no missing lines ~ drawings that even children might enjoy: goldfish, happy sun, flowers ~ other mandalas are quite intricate and can be challenging ~ looks organic and naturally hand drawn ~ color choices and placements make each mandala we color a unique creative expression; each one could be done slightly different with color choices and placement
I dig in with quality time and for a satisfying and relaxing coloring these with Copic Sketch markers and Prismacolor soft core pencils for shading.

I purchased this adult coloring book in a 4-for-3 Amazon deal. I am new to adult coloring books (but as I mentioned in another review, I colored a ton of books when I was a kid). I was looking for a diversion to get my attention away from staring at a computer screen for hours. I wanted something creative to do, began looking for the old paint by numbers products, and found these lovely Dover (and other) coloring books.
I was attracted to the Mandala coloring books for their meditative and intricate patterns, and while reading all the reviews and looking at the customer photos, decided to try this one. This book has a lot of variety which I’m sure will keep me occupied and away from the computer for hours! I’ve only begun one Mandala, but I must say, it’s really a lot of fun.
As others have mentioned, the book is printed on both sides of the paper – but my guess is the books would be more expensive if printed only one-sided. Indeed, I did pay a bit more for a one-sided coloring book within this same order, and I see other one-sided books on Amazon that go for $7 and up. So, keep in mind, this is a price selling point (I assume). One can always (as I have done) scan and copy the designs to the computer, and use them ad infinitum.
I’m pleased with my purchase and my new hobby. I really do love the designs in this book. Not sure this book would be suitable for kids under the age of 10 – or any kid who is not into intricate coloring using various mediums. But for an adult looking for a past time that harkens back to the days of our youth, this book and other similar adult coloring books are simply perfect.

Friends gave me some art markers as a gift recently, and I quickly became addicted to designs like these. I’ve searched hundreds of similar products and have “test driven” about 15 of them now. This book turns out to be my favorite. I don’t love EVERY design in the book, but I love enough of them that I’m about to order my 3rd copy. Yes, I could (and have tried to) photocopy the pages to avoid buying the book again, but the quality of the copy paper I have isn’t very compatible with the Prismacolor Art Markers that I use. That doesn’t mean that you can’t or shouldn’t make copies for yourself. I like this product so much that I don’t mind spending $3.95, and I think I’m going to order a stack of them. The designs are that satisfying to me. I want to try them out in a variety of color patterns.
These designs offer such satisfying detail in a format that’s NOT so small that you have to squint while viewing the page, yet neither are they simplistic, childlike, or so large that using markers results in streaks as you try to fill the space. The scale of the designs lends itself nicely to the Prismacolor art markers I use. If you like to use various shades of the same color, these designs are structured in a way that allows you to experiment wonderfully with that technique.
The quality of the paper isn’t way off the charts, but it’s a bright optic white and is of a much higher quality than what I’ve seen in far more expensive products. I’m satisfied with it! Yes, it’s true that these images are printed on both sides of the page, so if you use permanent markers like I do, the ink bleeds through, rendering the back side of the page unusable. This is where you’d end up photocopying the other side of the page (if you have access to quality copy paper… if that matters) or buying more copies of the book.
For $3.95 I can’t beat this book. I’ve spend HOURS absorbed in the designs. I posted about 10 of them into the “viewer’s pages” section above… hopefully they’re visible.
I absolutely recommend this product!
